A world record was made on the opening day of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Regional Qualifier B tournament as Malaysia seamer Syazrul Ezat Idrus registered the first seven-wicket haul in a Men's T20I match on Wednesday.

Idrus notched up outstanding figures of 7/8 as Malaysia claimed an eight-wicket win over China at Bayuemas Oval.

Previously, 12 bowlers claimed six-wicket hauls in a Men's T20I but this was the first time someone has bagged a seven-wicket haul.

The right-armer enjoyed bowling in Pandamaran as he single-handedly destroyed the Chinese batting line-up, claiming all seven of his wickets bowled as the visitors were bundled out for just 23 in the 12th over.

Malaysia lost two wickets but chased down the victory target in the fifth over, giving them the perfect start to the qualifying tournament they are hosting ahead of the T20 Cricket World Cup in the USA and West Indies next year.

The winner of this tournament will advance to the Asia Regional Final in Nepal in November, with the top two teams from that event qualifying for the 20-over showcase in 2024.
